_______________________________________________________ Dazzling Sun v1.1 sunglare mod for TES4 Oblivion, by sefmonsta _______________________________________________________ 1. About 2. Installation 3. Known Issues / Compatability 4. Version History _______________________________________________________ 1. About ***************************************************************************** Dazzling Sun is an Oblivion mod that mimics the effect of temporal glare experienced when looking towards the sun. It does this by using a high-contrast colour image to add colour fringes to the sky-glow. It works best in conjunction with the OBGE colour effects (HLSL and SSAO), and complements Godrays well. N.B.: never stare directly at the sun, unless it's a virtual one! _______________________________________________________ 2. Installation ***************************************************************************** Before you start, you might want to save a backup copy of the original sun, the file is in your Textures\sky folder: e.g. C\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\Textures\sky simply rename the file to sunglare_bak ***************************************************************************** There are two versions of the sunglare.dds file included. - Clear: use this version for a sharper photo-realistic sunglare. - Super: Use this version for a more dramatic brighter skyglow. To choose which is for you, see the preview pics. Once youv'e made your choice, you can always paste over it with the alternate version later. Copy the Textures folder from your chosen version folder and paste it into your ...\Oblivion\Data\ directory, clicking yes to replace/merge when asked. ***************************************************************************** Next, change the SunGlare size settings in the Oblivion settings. 1. Locate the Oblivion.ini file (usually in \MyDocuments\MyGames\Oblivion) 2. !!! Make a copy !!! and rename it (e.g. Oblivion_bak.ini) 3. Open up the Oblivion.ini file and change these values: fSunGlareSize=260 (or for the Super version, try 280 or 300) fSunBaseSize=180 (or for the Super version, try 200 or 220) You can always tweak these values to make the sun bigger or brighter... just ensure you save a backup copy! 4. Save changes, close the file, and load up Oblivion. _______________________________________________________ 3. Known Issues / Compatability ***************************************************************************** Dazzling Sun only replaces the sunglare.dds file, and as far as I know will only conflict with other sun mods that replace this. If your dazzling sun does not appear on loading Oblivion, you may need to do the following: Download the Oblivion Mod Manager: http://timeslip.chorrol.com/obmm_download.html Once you have installed OBMM, and opened it, click the "Utilities" button and select "Archive Invalidation". Ensure the mode is set to BSA redirection, and hit "Update Now". This tells Oblivion to search for the new replacement texture before trying to load the default one. You might need to do this for other mods you use, so it's a good tool to have. _______________________________________________________ 4. Version History ***************************************************************************** 16th May 2012 - Dazzling Sun v1.1 Fixed bit-depth (smaller filesize) 14th May 2012 - Dazzling Sunglare v1 Planned future release: a slightly less saturated Skyrim conversion. _______________________________________________________
