OWNABLE TAVERN REDONE ____ A TES IV : OBLIVION mod by Tomius37 Version 1.1 - May 2019 Welcome to the mod Ownable Tavern, Redone ! Ownable Tavern by MarsGames had this great idea to introduce to the game a tavern the player could buy, and then have a regular income. However the yields were quite unbalanced, and anyway unfunctional, and a lot of comments pointed out the absence of a small quest to acquire the building and improve it. This mod is a complete rebuilt of Ownable Tavern, since I had no answer from MarsGames when I asked him if I could use his plugin to improve it (he seems to have left the Nexus 10 years ago !) ; I rebuild an entirely new plugin of my own, but have set the basic place and characters as it was in Ownable Tavern (this is not plagiarism, but a tribute !) ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ CREDITS & THANKS - MarsGames for Ownable Tavern (https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/28158), which this mod is completely based on. - Kaizit for his permission to use assets from his mod Kaizits new animations for NPC and player (https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45197, see Permissions for the details of which assets I used), which by the way you are encouraged to use. - AndalayBay for Generic Signs (https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/44970), providing me the textures and meshes for the sign of the tavern (free to use resource) - harisonzamperla for NPC Behavior Animations (https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/40004), providing me additional animations (free to use resource) - The Ta'agra Project (www.taagra.com), for the Khajiit language. - Articles and tutorials of cs.elderscrolls.com and wiki.nexusmods.com, and help from users of www.reddit.com - A. from La Confrérie des Traducteurs for the review of the french version of the mod and his corrections. - The creators of The Elder Scrolls Construction Set and TES CS Extender, OBSE, NifSkope, ESM – ESP Translator, BSA Unpacker, TES4Edit - Bethesda for Oblivion and all the TES games (obviously) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PERMISSIONS Aside for the exception listed below, you are free to use any asset in this mod to improve it, modify it or use it in another mod of TES IV : Oblivion and DLCs, as long as you credit me as Tomius37 as the creator. You cannot use, modify or distribute the assets from Kaizit (Nexus pseudo : stesha) without his permission. This include all the files from the kaizit folder in Meshes\Character\_male\idleanims (CarryHam.kf, ChairDrinkMug.kf, ChairDrinkWine01LC.kf, CountingCoins01.kf, EatApple01.kf, Headache.kf, ReadingNewspaper.kf, WipingBarCounter.kf),all the files from the Meshes\kaizit folder (AppleR.nif, Coin.nif, Coins.nif, HamR.nif, LowerCup03R.nif, LowerMugTanBeerR.nif, Newspaper01.nif, PitcherBeerL.nif, RagR.nif) and all the files in the Textures\kaizit folder (Beer.dds, Beer_n.dds, stew01.dds, stew01_n.dds, WineRed.dds, WineRed_n.dds) which all are original files by Kaizit, as well as the CookingPotStew.nif in Meshes\Static, for which I used the Stew01.dds texture file also from Kaizit. If you use GenericTavern.nif, GenericTavern.dds and/or GenericTavern_n.dds (assets from GenericSigns), you will have to credit AndalayBay as the original author. If you use sitwalllean.kf and/or specialidle_walltapfoot.kf (assets from NPC Behavior Animations), you have to credit harisonzamperla as the original author. Don’t forget to mention MarsGames as the original author of the base mod. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION The tavern is along the outside wall of Leyawiin, just west from the north east gate and south from the coast guard station. It has its own map marker which allows fast travel to it. It is also possible to fast travel from its interiors. Besides the tavern, the mod adds two Coastal Guards in the vicinity, members of the Leyawiin City Guard, who patrols alternatively with Decentius Opsius near the docks. Inside the tavern the bartender sells ingredients (food) and drinks, and buys ingredients, potions, armors and weapons. He also provides repair services and training in blunt weapons (Journeyman). He offers bed rental like any other inn. Another merchant sells some bows and arrows and hunting goods, and buys anything including stolen items. He also is a trainer in Discretion (Novice). After some improvement of the tavern, a trainer in Destruction (Apprentice) will appear. There is 3 to 4 other customers, one of them being essential to the quest improving the building. Once bought, the player can sleep in any bed of the tavern. It is possible to take the food, drinks or books placed inside the tavern for the cell will respawn ; however no container are safe. The only two safe non respawnable containers will be the money box on the counter (after you bought the place) and the drawer in the player’s room (added by the improvement quest along with a private bed). All the NPCs are non-essential at base, but only the Coastal Guards will respawn later if killed. So you can rampage the tavern and kill everybody, but then you won’t be able to buy the tavern if you haven’t done it yet. The bartender will become essential after the purchase, the waitress after being hired. Once bought, you would be able to rename the tavern simply by activating the sign outside. To begin the quest to buy and improve the tavern, hear the Rumor in Leyawiin, or go in front of the tavern until the quest starts. There is only one playable quest added by this mod. Do not try to advance the quest simply by using the command SetStage in the console, it won’t work. The scripts to process to advance in the quest are triggered by the topics, not by the quest stages. You have to actually talk to the correct NPC in order to advance in the quest (what, you thought you would skip all my dialogs lines ? Nope.) The precise details of what the mod adds and which original cells are edited, as well as a summary of the new NPCs routine and Quest stages, could be found in the section Detailed Plugin Modifications. Note that this mod has already been cleaned with TES4Edit. TES4Edit will find 2 errors in this plugin, related to 2 BedrollSideEntry (WPWotrAtticBed1Ref and WPWotrAtticBed2Ref) : "record REFR contains unexpected (or out of order) subrecord XRNK" (Faction rank error). This only come from the fact that the Cell WPWotrTavern is owned by faction WPWotrCustomersFaction Rank 1, and those two bedrolls by the same faction Rank 0. This is on purpose, this discrepancy is used for the Bed Rental script of my tavern. It does not broke anything in-game, and should not be modified (or it will broke the Marog's Tavern Bed Rental). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REQUIREMENTS - You (obviously) need the original TES IV : Oblivion game… - The DLC Shivering Isles will be asked only to allow the sweeping animation for the waitress. Without the DLC SI installed, there will be a warning at each loading of a savegame using this mod, but I haven’t observed any crash caused by it. - The Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) is necessary, at least the version 0021 (https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/37952 or https://obse.silverlock.org/). Don't forget you need the Oblivion patch 1.2.0.416 in order to have OBSE working (https://patches.bethsoft.com/). - Elys Universal Silent Voices (https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/16622) is not mandatory but strongly recommended, since the dialogs are not voiced nor come with silent audio files. Without it the subtitles of the dialogs will only be displayed two seconds at the screen, making them difficult to read. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION MANUAL : Download the archive of the mod, then simply extract the content of the archive into your Data folder. By default it is in Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion, or if you got Oblivion with Steam in Program Files\steam\steamapps\common\oblivion Be sure to check the OwnableTavernRedone.esp in Data Files in the launch menu (either you use the physical or the Steam version of the game). WITH VORTEX : Download the archive of the mod with the Mod Manager button, then proceed as usual. WITH WRYE BASH : Download the archive of the mod, which is BAIN-Compatible. Then proceed as usual. WITH OBMM : Download the archive of the mod, then use OBMM to create the OMOD, and proceed as usual. OTHERS : I don’t know how to use other mod managers (Nexus Mod Manager not recommended for Oblivion). UPDATING FROM VERSION 1.0 : Install the content of the archive to replace the content of the previous version. Manually, just replace the OwnableTavernRedone.esp and the Readme. The updating should support a savegame based on the previous version, without needing a clean save. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UNINSTALLATION With your favorite Mod Manager : as usual. Just be careful if you have Kaizits new animations for NPC and player, both mods share some meshes and textures files, removing Ownable Tavern Redone could uninstall some files needed by Kaizits new animations for NPC and player. See Permissions for the details of the files used. Manually : Delete the following files / folders : Data\OwnableTavernRedone.esp Data\Docs\OwnableTavernRedone Readme.txt Data\Meshes\AndalayBay \Armor\Darkbrotherhood\M\CustomDBLeatherArmor.nif \Characters\_male\idleanims\sitwalllean.kf , specialaidle_walltapfoot.kf \Static\CookingPotStew.nif, IronarrowsingleStatic.nif , Lowerbowltan02Static.nif , Lowerthatchbasket01Static.nif , Middleplatered01Static.nif , Orcishmcuirass_gndStatic.nif , SteelbattleaxeStatic.nif Data\Textures\AndalayBay Be careful : delete the following folders only if you don’t use the mod Kaizits new animations for NPC and player : Data\Meshes\Characters\_male\idleanims\kaizit Data\Meshes\kaizit Data\Textures\kaizit --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMPATIBILITY Incompatible with Open Cities Reborn. This mod is compatible with any official DLC of TES IV : Oblivion. It should be compatible with Open Cities Classic, Unique Landscape, Shipping in Cyrodiil (base version and The Leyawiin Canal Edition), Rowboats (with the esp Leyawiin Bridge). For compatibility with Better Cities, use the patch (OTR-BCpatch.esp). It is recommanded to load Ownable Tavern Redone first, then Better Cities, then the patch. For this mod use some assets from the mod Kaizits new animations for NPC and player, installing both will cause a replacement of some files by the second mod installed. I have kept the same path for the assets I used, so it is recommended to install Ownable Tavern Redone after Kaizits new animations for NPC and player. Indeed, the idleanims .kf files distributed in Ownable Tavern Redone are files corrected by Kaizit from the version 1.71 of his mod (which contained some bugs) but not yet distributed by him. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOWN AND POSSIBLE BUGS - Do not rent a bed then buy the tavern in the same conversation with Marog (who will do such a thing anyway ?). It will break the ownership transfer, and you won’t be considered as owner of the tavern cell. - Raxle is not essential (the player is then able to kill him before speaking to him), but this in theory could make him die in combat against a random creature of the wilderness even before the player has the chance to see him. However there shouldn’t be any threat to him in his vicinity, so I’ve never seen this happening yet. - If a mod adds dialog for generic NPC, it could break the immersive dialog of the Tavern NPC Sh'azira. Indeed in the mod Sh'azira only speaks a mixture of Imperial and Khajiit language, but if new mods adds quests dialogs which could be said by any NPC in the game, it will also by said by Sh'azira, making his approximative Imperial suddenly vanish for a line or two. - It is possible that waiting outside in the vicinity of the tavern causes CTD while a Tavern script is running (mainly during the waiting time for the improvements). If you want to skip time quickly, just enter Leyawiin, you won’t experience any CTD (at least from this mod). You can of course wait in the tavern, but the improvements won’t take effect if you stay inside. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ================================================= DETAILED WALKTHROUGH /!\ Contain spoilers /!\ ================================================= The quest of the tavern is enabled at game start, so you are able to begin it whenever you want. The NPCs you could be involved with in a fight are levelled, but their equipment is not, so it is recommended you gain some levels (10 or 15) before going through the quest. You will also need some amounts of money, so don’t hurry yourselves to it just after you escaped the Imperial prison. ================== Starting the quest ================== To start the quest, either speak to any Leyawiin NPC (including Guards) and get it through the Rumor topic, or go outside Leyawiin through the north east gate and stand in front of the tavern (once location discovered) until the quest start. After getting the quest by Rumor of by discovering the tavern, Leyawiin NPCs will be able to talk about the topic Marog’s tavern to give you hints on its location and history. ============= Buy the thing ============= Inside the tavern, talk to the bartender, Marog gro-Grabukh. If the topic Marog’s tavern don’t appear, you haven’t started the quest yet ; just go outside and wait up to 5 seconds, the quest should start. (Note that the NPCs inside the tavern won’t be able to start the quest through the Rumor topic). If you already have killed the bartender, you’re screwed. No tavern for you, murderer ! Select the topic Marog’s tavern, and agree to hear the story of Marog. He will propose you to buy the tavern for 3000 gold. You have three options : - No : You haven’t the money or don’t want to buy it right now. You will be able to buy it later with the topic Buy tavern. (The same thing happens if you choose Yes but do not have the amount of gold needed). - Yes : You buy the tavern (if you have enough money). Go to the Tavern bought section. - Fight to the death : You propose Marog to end his life as he wished for. You will have to confirm your choice. If you don’t, you will be able to propose the fight again with the topic Fight to the death, or to buy the tavern with the topic Buy tavern. If you agree, see the Tavern fight section. Note : if you don’t select the Fight to the death topic at the end of Marog’s story, you won’t be able to bring it back and fight the bartender anymore. If you buy the tavern, you won’t be able to challenge Marog anymore. (Meaning if you choose the No answer, you won’t be able to choose Fight to the death later.) Afterwards, the quest could follow two paths, both being very similar with just a little alteration, regarding which choice you made (buy the tavern or fight Marog). See the corresponding sections to pursue. ============= Tavern bought ============= In exchange of your 3000 coins, Marog give you a key and a Property Deed. The paper has no further use. With the key you can access the little box on the end of the counter near the wall. Your income will be added to it each day (just after midnight), adding to the earnings of the previous days if you haven’t collected it (the box won’t respawn). You also become owner of the tavern cell, so you can pick up any collectible and sleep in any bed. You now can change the name of the tavern. To do so, go outside, and activate the sign just left from the door. You will be able to remove the old name (or keep it, whatever) and enter your new one. The controls of the text input are (OBSE v0021) : - Left/Right arrows: move cursor left or right. Pressing in conjunction with the CTRL key moves the cursor to the beginning of the closest word. - Home/End: move cursor to the beginning or end of the text. - Backspace/Delete: delete text. Use with CTRL to delete an entire word. - TAB: Inserts 4 spaces. You can enter any character besides <, > and ~ (it will just place a space instead). When you’re done, press Done. The sign as well as the tavern cell and map marker will be renamed. You are able to change the name whenever and as many times you want. ----------------- First improvement ----------------- After changing the name of the tavern, or before, or not (changing the name has no effect instead doing so), go speak to Marog. He will propose improvements, first of them being hiring a waitress to help him. You then have to see Selena Avistus, the young Imperial girl usually wandering in the ground floor of the tavern. If you have already killed her, bad luck for you, you are stuck and can’t progress through the quest (you didn’t think you could kill my characters like that without any consequences, did you ?) She will ask for 250 gold to be hired. If you refuse or don’t have the money, you will be able to ask her again later. You will need to spend those 250 gold to have her. Hiring Selena will clean the place ; the empty bottles and the web in the attic will be removed, and you will gain a new customer (one of the Leyawiin Coast Guard will take her lunch in your tavern). You will also have some positive remarks from the other customers when you ask them about Marog’s tavern. Accordingly, your daily income will increase. ------------- The big stuff ------------- Speak again to Marog when you have hired Selena. Now, he will propose you three Improvements : you can buy some tapestries, rugs and creatures heads for 500 gold, which will be set up in 6 days ; you can improve the attic with a floor and better beds for 200 gold, and all will be ready in 8 days ; and you can dig a basement for 800 gold, which will take 30 days to complete. You can do all this in the order you prefer, whenever you want. Note if Marog is not around, you can ask Selena to initiate the improvement instead. Indeed, after gaining help from Selena, Marog will be able to perform a monthly pilgrimage to Malacath’s Shrine, in the Gold Coast, every 7th of each month (and returning around the 9th). You can cross him on the roads or at the shrine, but he won’t be able to propose you to launch the improvements, nor to sell anything to you. FURNISHING The better furnishing just adds some nice stuff in the ground and first floors of the tavern, along with some books in the little bookshelves. But it is enough to attract two new customers (including the other Leyawiin Coast Guard), and increase your daily income. ATTIC The attic improvement adds more comfortable beds in it. You can sleep in it, and it also attract a new customer, who will be able to teach you Destruction skill. Of course your daily income will grow. BASEMENT This adds a whole basement, accessible with a door behind the counter. You will be able to retrieve food and drinks from its pantries, all respawnable (no safe container in it !). You also will be able to harvest some Cairn Bolete 10 days after the end of the construction. There will be a little bed in the basement, but only for Marog and Selena. But for you comes a private room upstairs, with a personal bed and a safe non-respawnable drawer just for you. Once all the improvements are done, talk to Marogs (topic Improvement). He will thank you warmly, and let you return to your other businesses. Bye bye ! Live long and happy ! The quest will still be active in your log. Don’t worry, it’s completely normal… You didn’t think you could go with it like that, did you ? ------------------ New trouble arouse ------------------ 3 days after talking to Marog about the completion of the improvements (you need to have talk with him), a messenger will be send with a letter for you. He will find you only in the wilderness of Tamriel or inside a city, but not if you are in an interior cell (preventing him to disturb you in a rampage party in your favorite dungeon, or deep within the Oblivion). He will give you a letter from Raxle (you would know who he is because you have read all the long and boring story dialog I wrote for Marog, haven’t you ?). Read it and go back to your tavern (hurry, or not, but you won’t be gaining anymore money from it until you have dealt with this, so…). You also could skip all the messenger thing by talking to Marog directly after the 3 days delay have passed. Marog will direct you to Raxle. Just exit the tavern, go back on the road and follow it to the east, inside the Blackwood. Raxle is standing on the middle of the road, not far from Leyawiin. He will engage conversation on approach. Of course, he asks for money. You have the choice of killing him by refusing to give up to him, or to agree and let it go. According to your choice, go to the sections Fight the bandit or Pay the bandit after the Tavern fight section. ============ Tavern fight ============ Once you’ve accepted the death fight, you won’t be able to do anything else with Marog (bed rental, buying…). Just go outside and wait for him, he shouldn’t be long. He will exit the tavern and wait for you on the docks, west of the tavern. Talk to him (or attack him directly if you’re rude) to launch the fight. Marogs is levelled 5 levels above you and at least level 10, except for his speed which is low (the arrow in the knee, remember ?) His armor is not levelled however (He wears only 3 pieces, with an increased armor rating to compensate. You cannot equip them), as long as his axe (which deal more damage, has a slightly increased range and a better durability for an increased encumbrance compared to other Steel Battleaxes). After you kill him (of course you will succeed, you wouldn’t have agreed to fight him otherwise), loot his body to take his Money Box Key ; you will need it to progress in the quest. Do not forget it, if the body disappear because the cell respawns, you won’t be able to retrieve it anymore. Along with it comes a Property Deed (useless for the rest of the quest). You gain the ownership of the tavern (you can sleep in any bed and pick up any collectible in it). Note that the body will be quickly removed from the field to process to the funerals. 2 days after the fight, a stele will be placed near the tavern door (right under the Gray Fox poster) in memory of this brave orc. ------------- Hire personal ------------- Now you can access to the Money box inside the tavern on the end of the counter near the wall. But for the tavern has no longer any manager, it will not fill up besides what is already in it. So, following the counsels of the late Marog, speak to Selena Avistus, the young Imperial girl inside the tavern. She will be glad to run the tavern on your behalf in exchange of 250 gold. If you refuse you can ask her again later. You will still need to give her 250 gold to hire her. Once Selena hired, you will be able to receive a daily income from the Money box. Your income will be added to it each day (just after midnight), adding to the earnings of the previous days if you haven’t collected it (the box won’t respawn). Hiring Selena will also clean the place ; the empty bottles and the web in the attic will be removed, and you will gain a new customer (one of the Leyawiin Coast Guard will take her lunch in your tavern). You will now have some positive remarks from the other customers when you ask them about Marog’s tavern. You will also be able to change the name of the tavern (or don’t, it has no incidence on the rest of the quest). To do so, go outside, and activate the sign just left from the door. You will be able to remove the old name (or keep it, whatever) and enter your new one. The controls of the text input are (OBSE v0021) : - Left/Right arrows: move cursor left or right. The sign as well as the tavern cell and map marker will be renamed. You are able to change the name whenever and as many times you want. ------------ Improvements ------------ Now that you own the tavern, speak to Selena again about the Improvements. You can buy some tapestries, rugs and creatures heads for 500 gold, which will be set up in 6 days ; you can improve the attic with a floor and better beds for 200 gold, and all will be ready in 8 days ; and you can dig a basement for 800 gold, which will take 30 days to complete. Of course, he asks for money. You have the choice of killing him by refusing to give up to him, or to agree and let it go. According to your choice, go to the sections Fight the bandit or Pay the bandit right below. ================ Fight the bandit ================ Well, Raxle attacks you, with two of his Black Bow friends, and you have to kill them all. Raxle is levelled 4 levels upon yours, without minimum level. But he just wears an elven cuirass and leather boots and bracers. He will attack only with his black bow. His associates are regular levelled Black Bow bandits. Once done, go back to speak to your favorite bartender, who will be relieved, and ends the quest. Good job ! ============== Pay the bandit ============== If you pay what Raxle asked for, he will be quite satisfied, and let you go enjoy your tavern in peace. You will gain one point of Fame, as long with a black bow (you know, of the kind you can sell to Count Caro if you are a good Errant Knight). Go back to speak to your favorite bartender, who will be relieved, and ends the quest. Note that if you kill Raxle after paying him, you will lose your Fame point and gain 2 points of Infamy (nasty person, you thought your trick would broke my quest design, eh ?). But you still can pickpocket him ;). Note also that after 12 days, you will be able to cross Raxle again inside Leyawiin, but without his fancy armor. He will explain to you how he ended here if you talk to him. There is nothing more. You can laugh at him, pity him, take a selfie screenshot with him, or else. If you attack him or commit a crime against him it will be considered as a crime by the guards, as he is not considered evil anymore. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ CHANGELOG 1.0 : First version of the mod. See the Detailed Plugin Modifications section of the v1.0 Readme for details. 1.1 : - Modification of the WPWotrWaitressSweep package (« Must complete » flag removed) and new package WPWotrWaitressWipe added - Flawed conditions deleted for some responses of Topics from the Quest WPWotrMarogsTavern (those conditions were referring to an erased script variable, and induced an error
