It is a simple matter of following the clues in the books provided.

SIDE QUEST SOLUTION / GUIDE

To start the quest obtain Drannens Key from his inventory, now locate his locked chest behind the bar of Candleheart Hall.
Inside you will find The Biography, this is simple backstory, but the important book is The Old Riften Post journal. 
The Clues here should give you the location to start (Black-Briar Lodge) and your direction to head from there (South East) 
or more realistically south the east around the landscape. 
Your seach should lead you to a new map marker locaion where the rewards can be found.
