Name: Chinese Assault Rifle Rechamber - .308cal Version: 2.0 Date: 15/05/2013 Category: Gameplay Effects and Changes Author(s): Banjo Source: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1169 Description =========== This mod rechambers the Chinese Assault Rifle (and all base game variants) to fire .308 Caliber ammunition instead of 5.56mm. Given that the .308 round is basically the same as a 7.62mm NATO round, this seems a closer approximation of realism. Though the Chinese Assault Rifle would probably be more likely to fire 7.62mm Soviet ammo, this would add extra complications of a new ammo type being added to the game, and I like to keep things as uncomplicated as possible, only adding new calibers if really needed. Besides, since Fallout 1 & 2 used 5mm for its AK-series assault rifle, Fallout 3 uses 5.56mm, and this mod uses .308 (7.62mm), which you prefer is more a matter of preference than what "realism" dictates. :) Location ======== Every Chinese Assault Rifle in the game (including variants like the Xuanlong) will be altered. NPCs armed with these weapons will be carrying the correct ammunition to use them. Details ======= There are six versions of this mod included in this package. IF YOU ARE PLAYING FALLOUT 3 WITHOUT OPERATION ANCHORAGE, USE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) "Chinese_Assault_Rifle_308cal.esp" - changes the Chinese Assault Rifle to fire .308 Caliber ammo. 2) "Chinese_Assault_Rifle_308cal_AAR.esp" - changes the Chinese Assault Rifle to fire .308 Caliber ammo and makes it more accurate, as per the popular "Accurate Assault Rifles" mod. 3) "Chinese_Assault_Rifle_308cal_WMK.esp" - changes the Chinese Assault Rifle to fire .308 Caliber ammo. Compatible with the popular "Weapon Mod Kits" mod. IF YOU ARE PLAYING FALLOUT 3 WITH OPERATION ANCHORAGE, USE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) "Chinese_Assault_Rifle_308cal_OA.esp" - changes the Chinese Assault Rifle to fire .308 Caliber ammo. 2) "Chinese_Assault_Rifle_308cal_OA+AAR.esp" - changes the Chinese Assault Rifle to fire .308 Caliber ammo and makes it more accurate, as per the popular "Accurate Assault Rifles" mod. 3) "Chinese_Assault_Rifle_308cal_OA+WMK.esp" - changes the Chinese Assault Rifle to fire .308 Caliber ammo. Compatible with the popular "Weapon Mod Kits" mod. Be sure to only use ONE of these six plugins, whichever suits your game setup. You will also find a plugin called "CrossPatch_5mmAR+308CAR.esp" in this package. This is a "compatibility patch" if you use both my 5mm Assault Rifle and .308cal Chinese Assault Rifle rechamber mods. It is only needed if you are playing with the Operation Anchorage DLC installed, and should be loaded after (and in addition to) any versions of the above two mods' esp files. Note that because .308 ammo type is only used for the Sniper Rifle in the base game, while enemies armed with Chinese Assault Rifles will now drop .308 Caliber ammo along with it, loot containers and vendors will still have only very small amounts of this ammunition on hand. You may thus wish to also use the optional (included) "More_Ammo_308cal.esp" module to increase vendor and loot container stocks of .308 Caliber rounds to offset this imbalance. Easy Install/Uninstall ====================== Use a mod manager like FOMM or Nexus Mod Manager. Manual Install ============== 1. Copy the .esp files to your Fallout 3 Data folder. 2. Start the Fallout 3 Launcher, click 'Data Files', place a checkmark beside the .esp file you wish to use. 3. To remove, delete the .esp file from the Data folder. Incompatibility =============== This mod will naturally conflict with mods that alter the Chinese Assault Rifle (and its variants), and/or related "loot lists" of NPCs who carry them. Note that if you wish to use the "accurate" version of this mod AND the original "Accurate Assault Rifles" mod, the former mod MUST be loaded after this one in the load order or your rifles will not be rechambered! Known Issues or Bugs ==================== If you load a save from before this plugin was loaded, NPCs in the player's same area may not have the correct ammo for their Chinese Assault Rifles (thus, their guns are empty!). NPCs in different areas that you move to should be fine, but the best way to use this mod is with a new game. Not a bug, but obviously using the "More_Ammo_308cal.esp" plugin will give you a lot more ammunition for the base game's sniper rifle. This may be seen by some as unbalancing. All NPCs who carry Assault Rifles SHOULD carry the correct ammo for their gun (ie. .308 Caliber), but if I've missed someone out, please let me know so I can fix it! History ======= 2.0, 15/05/2013 - Total overhauled to bring this simple but ancient mod up to modern standards and added patches to make it compatible with the "Weapon Mod Kits" mod and the official "Operation Anchorage" DLC. 1.0, 09/12/2008 - Initial release.
