Name: Assault Rifle Rechamber - 308cal Version: 1.0 Date: 09/12/2008 Category: Gameplay Effects and Changes Author(s): Banjo Source: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1172 Description =========== This mod rechambers the Assault Rifle (and all base game variants) to fire .308 ammunition instead of 5.56mm. I've added this rechamber mod due to popular demand. Given that the .308 round is basically the same as a 7.62mm NATO round, this does seem a more realistic choice for the Assault Rifle to use, given its resemblance to similar "real world" rifles that fire that caliber. While some nitpickers may argue that there are differences between .308 (Winchester) ammunition and 7.62mm NATO rounds, it is not (in my opinion) a debate worth adding a new ammo type (and greater complexity and ammo shortages!) to Falloout 3 over. Location ======== Every Assault Rifle in the game (including variants like Wanda) will be altered. NPCs armed with these weapons will be carrying the correct ammunition to use them. Details ======= There are two versions of this mod included in this package: 1) "Assault Rifle 308cal.esp" - changes the Assault Rifle to fire .308 ammo. 2) "Assault Rifle 308cal - Accurate.esp" - changes the Assault Rifle to fire .308 ammo and makes it more accurate, as per the popular "Accurate Assault Rifles" mod by Crotalus (found here: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=217). Please only use ONE of these, whichever you prefer. Note that all NPCs who carry Assault Rifles SHOULD carry the correct ammo for their gun (ie. .308), but if I've missed someone out, please let me know so I can fix it! Compatibility with the "Accurate Assault Rifles" mod has been added by request, and because I agree it's a great mod! If you use this version, please take the time to thank Crotalus' for his original mod at the above location. Note that if you wish to use the "accurate" version of this mod AND the original "Accurate Assault Rifles" mod, the former mod MUST be loaded after the latter one in the load order (FOMM is highly recommended over Fallout 3's default Data Files loader). Note that because .308 is only used for the Sniper Rifle in the base game, while enemies armed with Assault Rifles will now drop .308 ammo along with it, vendors will sell only very small amounts of this caliber. You may thus wish to also use the optional (included) "Increased 308cal Ammo.esp" module to increase vendor and loot container stocks of .308 rounds. Install ======= 1. Copy the .esp file to (install folder)\Data\ 2. Start the Fallout 3 Launcher, click 'Data Files', place a checkmark beside the .esp file you wish to use OR use FOMM (see Thanks section). Uninstall ========= 1. Start Fallout 3 Launcher, click Data Files, uncheck the .esp file OR start FOMM and uncheck the .esp file. 2. Delete the .esp file from \Data\ Incompatibility =============== This mod will naturally conflict with mods that alter the Assault Rifle (and its variants), and/or related "loot lists" of NPCs who carry them. If any creators of cool mods out there would like to make this compatible with theirs, please get in touch with me. Known Issues or Bugs ==================== If you load a save from before this plugin was loaded, NPCs in the player's same area may not have the correct ammo for their Assault Rifles (thus, their guns are empty!). NPCs in different areas that you move to should be fine, but the best way to use this mod is with a new game. History ======= 1.0, 09/12/2008 - Initial release. Contact ======= This is one of my first ever mods (for anything!) so please be gentle... but feedback, tips, ideas and bugfixes are always welcome. You can find me on Fallout3Nexus forums as 'banjo_oz' You can send me an email here: banjo_oz AT hotmail DOT com Credits ======= Thanks to Black Isle (and Interplay), without whom there would be no Fallout! Thanks to Bethesda for continuing the Fallout series. Thanks to Timeslip for FOMM, without which I wouldn't be able to mod anything in this game! Thanks to Fallout3Nexus.com and its members for being amazingly talented folks who's posts and discussions have helped me pick up how to do ANY of this... and for modding Fallout 3 (without tools!) so quickly and skillfully. You guys and gals are amazing, and have inspired me to try and learn this too. Special thanks to Nexus members Moraelin and OmniTree, for setting me on the right path to make this mod (I hope!) work. Thanks to Crotalus, for his original "Accurate Assault Rifles" mod, of which parts are contained in one version of this mod with his full permission.
