FER - FO3 Essentials Revamped Author: Zumbs & claustromaniac Version: 1.1 Date: 26 Oct 2014 Category: Gameplay Effects and Changes Mod's Website: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/20731/? Requirements ============= FOSE (http://fose.silverlock.org/) Broken Steel DLC Mothership Zeta DLC Operation: Anchorage DLC Point Lookout DLC The Pitt DLC Description =============== If you want to be able to kill most NPCs without arbitrary restrictions and/or you don't want them to get killed by accident, keep reading. First of all, as soon as you load this, it automatically turns many significant unique and even some generic NPCs "essential" so that they don't get killed by ANY means, including, but not limited to: walking into a minefield, crossing a polluted river, or simply getting in the line of fire. No longer will the ocassional bored Deathclaw wipe a little town before you even get a chance to decide to go there for the first time. The best part is that this is done through a script, which is the best option for compatibility with other mods. Why? because I don't have to manually edit the flags on any NPC record, and since I don't use FormID's as references for the SetEssential command, the load order of the master files is not important. Secondly, FER makes use of an extended version of the awesome system found in Zumbs' terribly underrated Kill and Loot Unconscious Essential NPCs mod. The player (and the player alone) can kill and loot both vanilla essential NPCs and the ones made essential through this mod. Yes, you read that right. Their lives are in YOUR hands and your hands alone now. The mechanics is exactly the same as in Zumbs' mod, except that whenever you activate an NPC that was already essential in the vanilla game, the "Kill" button has two exclamation signs between brackets, like this: "[!] Kill [!]". This is intended as a warning that if you kill that particular NPC, you will most likely break an important quest. Lastly, this changes the game setting fEssentialDeathTime to 90. This is the time in seconds that essential NPCs remain unconcious, and this is also changed through a script that runs only the first time the mod is loaded. You can manually change this setting afterwards using the SetGameSetting (SetGS) console command if you want. If you ever want to re-apply the essential flag to all the NPCs, both vanilla and the ones designated by this mod, all you have to do is open the console and type "startquest zzzEssentializer" (without quotes). Note that this will also revert the fEssentialDeathTime game setting to the mod's default of 90, so you will have to change it back to the value you want if you don't want that one. If you ever want to revert the flags and fEssentialDeathTime game setting to their original state (recommended if you want to uninstall this mod), open the console and type "startquest zzzRemoveFER". It is worth mentioning that the essential flags will stick around unless you use said command. So if you don't want to use the remaining features and just want to make many NPCs essential you can simply load the mod, save the game and uninstall it later to save a slot. It's the most optimal way to turn a bunch of NPCs essential for the reasons stated above. In case you didn't figure yet, FER can also be used to restore essential flags altered by other mods by loading it and running the built-in command to revert changes. You can uninstall it afterwards and the essential flags will stay that way. This mod is built in such a way that the scripts run once and then stop, so it doesn't decrease FPS or game performance even slightly. Let me know if I missed any significant NPC or if you want any of them removed from the list because of an unexpected mod conflict or anything. Known issues and bugs ======================== None yet. Let me know if anything weird happens. Incompatibilities =================== This shouldn't be incompatible with anything, but that always remains a remote possibility at the very least. Future plans ============== Play the damned game. Seriously. I am no professional programmer or anything, barely an amateur who seized an opportunity to shoot down a problem without too much effort (I didn't even take the effort to make a UI for it, that should tell you something).I didn't make this out of generosity or boredom. I might still be persuaded to expand this if there's enough demand, but I seriously doubt the latter. For now consider using Zumbs' original mod if you do not own all of the DLCs or if you're FOSE-phobic or something like that. Children support... Nah, just messing around. Children are harder to deal with in this game so I don't think I'll ever dare trying to circumvent the involved limitations just to kill a couple of annoying billies. Other mods do that just fine. Just wanted to make it clear preemptively. Thanks to ========= Zumbs, needless to say. Give him kudos if you can, so that he feels motivated enough to start making new cool stuff that I can steal *cough*... borrow. :) Ian Patterson (ianpatt), Stephen Abel (behippo), and Paul Connelly (scruggsywuggsy the ferret) AKA The FOSE Team. The Nexus and its many cool modders. Bethesda Softworks Legal and licensing ==================== You can do whatever you want with this as long as Zumbs agrees. As for me, I don't even ask you to give me any credit. Changelog ========= v1.1 Removed a CS wild edit (two unnecessary, not-asked-for Worldspace records to be more specific). Updated the ReadMe. v1.0 Initial Release
