Character Traits v.0.1.1 Readme File ========================= This mod attempts to bring Traits back to Fallout by adding 60 perks to the game, most of which are chosen during character generation. This mod is best played with a new game, so that most of the Traits can be used. I have included my QuickStart.esp file for use with this mod so that players can start a New Game without having to deal with the childhood sequences. Some of the character traits require the use of Caiman's must-have "nochilduse removed" mod, which I have included in this archive. You can get the latest version at his file entry here: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1817 I would also like to thank xpiratosx for his upload of the classic Fallout Pip Boy icons, here: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2147 Give them lots of kudos, folks! =============\ Where it Goes: =============/ To install this mod, simply extract the archive to your "\Fallout 3 \Data" folder. Let it overwrite if it wants to. Then activate "CharacterTraits.esp" in the Data Files section of your favorite Fallout 3 launcher, as well as "nochilduse.esp", and start the game. If you are using Operation Anchorage, use the CharacterTraits Anchorage Compatible.esp instead. If you want to start a new game quickly and skip most of the CG scenes at the start of the game, activate "QuickStart.esp" as well. Also, make sure your Fallout.ini file contains the line: bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 THis file should be located in My Documents\My Games\Fallout 3\. Otherwise, the Perk graphics may not show up properly. =============\ What it Does: =============/ This mod adds 60 new Perks intended to enhance roleplaying. Most of these are considered Traits in the classic Fallout sense - they each give a benefit, and they each have their drawbacks. Some of the new traits can have a huge impact on gameplay, and they are not especially balanced. This mod is therefore not recommended for a first play-through, but rather, it exists to add to Fallout 3's replayability. ===================\ How To Use This Mod: ===================/ When this mod is loaded, a player starting a new game will discover that they have a Terminal called My Computer sitting on the desk in their room. Accessing this terminal will bring up a menu containing a myriad of character traits. The player selects a trait by using the terminal to select the trait and agreeing that the trait describes him or her. The trait can then be removed by denying that the trait describes him or her. The whole process is actually very much more intuitive and less complicated than it sounds here. Certain traits will cancel others out. For example, a person cannot be a Giant and a Tiny Person at the same time. A person cannot be both Agoraphobic and Claustrophobic (I can't imagine such a nightmarish existence). The terminal will remain available until the player leaves Vault 101. That way, the Traits can be changed at any point until the Escape! quest is done. ===========\ Other Perks: ===========/ In addition to the Traits available at the beginning of the game, this mod also adds 16 perks attained at the level up screen. ====================\ The Traits and Perks: ====================/ Please see the file "character_traits_and_perks_rundown" for detailed descriptions of each Trait and Perk and what they do. ========================\ Things That Must Be Said ========================/ - Reassigning S.P.E.C.I.A.L points at the Vault door after assigning traits will reset all traits. This is designed to prevent exploitation. - Intense Training can overcome any natural-born deficiency. - Tag! Skills will overcome any such deficiencies as well. - Pouring points into a skill you have an extreme deficiency in is possible, but sometimes pointless (if you have -100 to sneak from the Giant trait, you would need to put 100 points in Sneak just to balance it out). - This mod should work just fine with every other Perk package out there. ====================\ If Bad Things Happen: ====================/ - Make sure you are using the latest version of the mod, and that everything is where it belongs. - If you are getting the "children cannot use that" message, that means you are either (a) not using nochilduse.esp, or (b) that another mod is conflicting with it. This mod was tested extensively before being uploaded, but issues do get through, so please let me know if you find any. I'll keep fixing glitches as long as people are finding them. Tell me all your problems. Questions, comments, and hate mail may all be sent to my e-mail address, DoorToThePsyche@gmail.com. ==============================\ Current Snags Being Worked Out: ==============================/ - I can't seem to match face geometry to the player for certain perks - Jumping giants will be able to see into the ceiling in certain interiors - Weapons will always be size matched to the wielder, even with Tiny people. - I wanted to use glasses for the vision traits but I couldn't get the new glasses to properly stick on the player's face, so it's contact lenses for now. ========\ Conflicts ========/ This mod will conflict with any mod that makes the player's desk in Vault 101 unavailable. ============\ Future Plans: ============/ - More traits and more perks - Updates - Glitch fixes if necessary ============\ Thanks Be To: ============/ I thank Anonymous for the new graphics, FussyGit for his thoughtful critique, Marcotayh for first reporting Operation Anchorage incompatibility, nananeko88 for the temporary Tranquility Lane fix, and DAud_IcI for first reporting that glitch. I also thank Black Isle for their incredible game Fallout and its perk images, xpiratosx for the Pip Boy Icons upload, Bethesda for the GECK and for giving Fallout new life, everyone who has given me feedback, and everyone who likes this mod. ?!
