***************************************************************** Fallout 3 Alternative Soundtrack ***************************************************************** Content: 1. General information 2. Troubleshooting 3. Credits 4. Legal information ***************************************************************** 1. General information ***************************************************************** Memory requirements: Ambient music: +59mb Galaxy News Radio music: +231mb Additional music: +16mb This means that the memory requirements of your Fallout 3 game will be raised by 306mb. Your original ambient music files were backed up during the installation and will be restored when you uninstall the alternative soundtrack. !!!Important!!! In order to get the GNR music working, the installation automatically changed the "bInvalidateOlderFiles" parameter value located in your "fallout.ini" file from "0" to "1". If for whatever reason you still can't hear this music in the game, execute the following tasks: Open your "fallout.ini" config file, find the bInvalidateOlderFiles paramenter and change the value from 0 to 1. You can search for the file on your C drive or open the location manually. The path may look like this: c:\Users\(your user name)\Documents\My Games\Fallout3 Changing this value may cause game instability, especially with DLC not downloaded from the official sources. This mod changes: ambient music (new), GNR music (new), tenpenny tower music (one of originally GNR tracks), project purity music (new), success, death and mysterious stranger music effects (all new), level up music effect (lower volume) ***************************************************************** 2. Troubleshooting ***************************************************************** P: I cannot hear the Galaxy News Radio music, Ambient music is playing fine. What should I do? A: This means you do not have a bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 line in your fallout.ini configuration file. The solution is right above this paragraph, it's labelled !!!Important!!! so you shouldn't miss it. P: The music didn't change at all, I still hear the original soundtrack. A: This means the soundtrack wasn't installed into the correct directory. Uninstall it and reinstall into your Fallout 3 game directory. The path displayed on the screen after you select your game directory should look like "D:\Games\Fallout3". You should see a "sound" directory in the "Data" directory after the installation. P: My game doesn't run at all A: This means you are low on memory. Try to delete the sound directory from your Fallout3/data folder. This should reduce the memory usage by roughly 247 MB. See http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_10.html for more details how you can free up memory in your Fallout 3 game. P: My game crashed before but after I installed the soundtrack, it crashes way more often. A: This means there's a problem with your game and since this soundtrack raises the memory requirements, it makes the problem more obvious. For example I have an X-Fi soundcard and sooner (with the soundtrack) or later (without), the game will always crash with the present drivers (9.5.2009). P: I cannot listen to the Galaxy News Radio because there's a lot of stuttering in the audio and it's driving me crazy. A: You have an AC3 codec installed on your computer, disable it. For example if you're using ffdshow, you have to go to the audio decoder settings, select codecs (at the top of the left menu) and change the decoder for AC3 from liba52 or libavcodec to disabled. If you cannot disable your AC3 decoder, the only option is to uninstall it. Reducing the number of channels on the output of your soundcard can diminish the problem but doesn't not solve it. ***************************************************************** 3.
