so you got the cd rom version of the game 
and it wont start up at all! why is that ?
well windows got a update that will break bf1942 
so now you know bf1942 use safedisc and it no longer works anymore but dont worry here the fix! look below

if you installed reecent windows update
bf1942 wil no longer run you have to patch the game to make it work again or uninstall the update 
but to patch up the game is way better as you now can play it online again and you won't have problems any longer

first install battlefield_1942_patch_v1.6.19. file size 274 mb
now install bf1942_patch_v1.6_to_v1.61b.  file size 6 mb 

 now install this battlefield_1942_gamespy_patch_v1.61. file size 2 mb 

your bf1942 wil now work again you can play online and join many servers that dont run punkbuster


but if you want to join punkbuster servers you will have to update your punkbuster 
so  install this update >> TanksPBupdate << ( you will have to run TanksPBupdate as administrator  look at this site how to do that  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff431742.aspx )
